HOW TO CREATE PERSONALIZED ACCOUNTS
Some of the electronic databases to which ACC subscribes offer a "My Account" feature. The name and capabilities vary by database. Here is a summary of how to use this feature in those databases where it exists and is available for longer than 24 hours.

American Chemical Society Journals Look For: RSS & e-mail Alerts Location: Second tab at top of screen Description: With ASAP Alerts, you can be the first to know when an article is posted to the Web—either the very day it is published as an Article ASAPSM (As Soon As Publishable) or on a weekly basis. This service is especially designed for those who want to know about an article just as soon as it is published. You will receive an e-mail clearly listing the title, author, journal name, and Web publication date with a direct URL link to the full article. With Table of Contents Alerts, you can be immediately alerted when the entire contents of a new, complete issue is posted on the Web. This service is especially designed for those who prefer to know of an entire issue's contents at once. The message clearly contains the title, author, journal name, and actual page numbers, with a direct URL link to the full article on the Web. You may sign up for either option—or both. ACS Web Edition subscribers may instantly click through to the full text of all articles listed in both e-mail alerts. Needed: Complete Registration Form by entering in name, geographic location, email address, career qualifier, field of interest, journal title, and type of Internet access. Books in Print (Student/Faculty Edition) Look For: My Favorites Location: Middle of the page on left side Description: There are two sections within the My Favorites area - Manage My List and Manage My Saved Searches (BIP Alert). Searches (BIP Alert) Needed: E-mail address and password Books in Print (Library Staff Edition) Look For: BIP Alert Location: Second button in right corner of top of screen Description: Want to be the first one to find out about a new release or forthcoming book in your favorite subject area? Or by your favorite author? Now Bowker will do it for you! Build and save your own customized searches and receive regular alerts on what meets your book buying needs. It will only take a few moments to set up and you have the ability to modify your saved search profiles at any time. Needed: E-mail address and password Look For: Lists Location: Upper right corner of screen Description: Ulrichsweb.com allows users to save title information or a list of search results in a List. Lists can be public (that is, viewable by anyone who has access to the user's account) or password protected (viewable only by the user who created the list). Lists can be added to and revised. Needed (for password protected lists): E-mail address and password Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory Look For: Lists Location: Upper right corner of screen Description: Ulrichsweb.com allows users to save title information or a list of search results in a List. Lists can be public (that is, viewable by anyone who has access to the user's account) or password protected (viewable only by the user who created the list). Lists can be added to and revised. Needed (for password protected lists): E-mail address and password Look For: Ulrich’s Alerts Location: Upper right corner of screen Description: Ulrich's Alerts is a new, free monthly e-mail notification service from ulrichsweb.com about serials in your areas of interest. Once you are signed up and receive your first Ulrich's Alert, you will be able to view your current month's alerts and will have access to an archive of previous months' alerts. Needed: E-mail address and password Look For: Your Profile Location: Left side navigation bar Description: To save your Favorite Documents, Document History, and Saved Searches you can create a personal profile account. Your account will remain until there is a 24 month period with no activity on this site. Needed: User name and password Look For: Your Profile Location: Left side navigation bar Description: Creating a "Your Profile" account will enable you to maintain a list of Favorite Documents. You will also be able to view a Document History of the last thirty records accessed under your account and maintain a list of Saved Searches. Your Favorite Documents, Document History, and Saved Searches may be retrieved during your next session on the Historic Documents Series. If you do not create a profile and log-in, all session information will be lost when you end the session. Needed: User name and password Look For: Your Profile Location: Left side navigation bar Description: By creating a profile in the CQ Electronic Library (CQEL), you can save favorite searches and documents for future reference. If you do not create a profile, CQEL will only save this information, as well as the last 25 documents you viewed, for the current session. Needed: User name and password Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, MagillOnLiterature, MasterFILE Premier, MEDLINE, Military & Government Collection, Regional Business News Look For: Sign In to My EBSCOhost (personalized account, save searches, alerts) Location: Upper left corner of screen Description: When you sign in, you have access to a personal area you can use to collect information you plan on reusing in a future EBSCOhost session. You do not need to sign in to conduct searches or print articles. Sign in only if you want to save items and reuse them the next time you use EBSCOhost. Once you sign in, all the items saved in your folder will be available to you the next time you sign in to EBSCOhost. Only you can access your personal folder items. Needed: User name and password Look For: My Hoover’s (Save searches, create watch lists, track significant developments, receive news alerts, save download to Excel) Location: Upper right corner of screen Description: Registration allows you to customize Hoover's to your needs. Needed: E-mail address and password Look For: xml RSS Feed Location: Upper left corner Description: RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based Web standard that allows you to display the latest headlines from your favorite sites using special programs call RSS readers (also news readers, news aggregators) and then directly access the articles you wish to see. The AccessScience RSS feed delivers headlines and links back to the latest Encyclopedia articles, news stories, and announcements posted on the AccessScience home page. Needed: To use RSS you need to select and download an RSS reader that will allow you to collect and display RSS feeds. Many free readers are available. Search the Web for "news aggregator" or "RSS reader" to locate a reader to download. Please follow your specific RSS reader's instructions for setting up an RSS Feed. Look For: Create a Free Account (view full-text, create lists, make notes, customize preferences) Location: Upper right corner of screen Description: Once you have a free account you can view full-text eContent, listen to audiobooks, create a list of titles, make notes in individual full-text eContent titles, and customize your account preferences. Needed: Username and password Look For: My Account Location: Middle top of screen Description: As a user of the FirstSearch service, you can register within FirstSearch for a personal account. To register, you must create a username and password and provide an e-mail address. Once registered, you can save your current searches and return to them at a future date. Needed: User name and password
Stat!Ref Online Medical Database Look For: Preferences Location: Upper right corner of screen Description: My STAT!Ref accounts allow you to customize your preferences. My STAT!Ref users have the ability to add, edit, or delete their own personal Search Sets. Needed: E-mail address, user name, and password Look For: myELS on tab Location: Right side toward top of screen Description: myELS is a personalization facility available to all users. It will give access to password-protected pages within which articles and illustrations can be bookmarked, and organized into customisable folders. Complex searches can be saved making them quick and easy to re-run. Needed: username and password Book Review Digest, Current Biography Look For: Add e-mail alert located under Search History tab Location: Right side next to search results Description: WilsonWeb’s SDI (Selective Dissemination of Information) service allows the users of WilsonWeb databases to save searches, scheduling them to be rerun automatically, with the latest results e-mailed. A search can be saved and then an alert created for that search which can be e-mailed on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis to the user. At any time the user can modify the alert settings, delete the alert, or start a new alert. Needed: E-mail address |
