LITERACY @ AUSTIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE Librarian Presentations
|| Course-Integrated Assignment Design A librarian can speak in-person to your class on research-related topics and skills. Usually we bring the students into the library where we set up our wireless laptops so the session can be hands-on for the students or we can come to your classroom. Visit or call your campus library and speak with a reference librarian. Contact info to get more information: Red Wassenich (redwass@austincc.edu)
or go to your campus library. Course-Integrated Assignment Design The librarians can work with you to design a research assignment that matches the specifics of your course. This can take the form of a guided research process or simply a pathfinder of useful resources or many other approaches. A librarian presentation may or may not be included. We also can help you develop alternative ideas if you don’t want a formal research paper. Online form to request assignment design collaboration Contact Red Wassenich (redwass@austincc.edu) for more information If you have an assignment that includes research but don’t want a librarian presentation or other more active involvement, consider having a librarian review it. We know of many resources, both online and in print, that you may not be aware of. We can help you steer your students away from simply relying on web pages and toward higher quality sources. Contact any reference librarian to get more information. Library Services offers a variety of student workshops that are open to all without reservations. Many faculty offer credit to students who attend. Certificates proving attendance are given. You may also request having one of these presentations done for your class as a whole. It is currently used in English 1301, Composition I, and in Business 1301, Introduction to Business. Students must pass 5 quizzes to get credit. You may assign this. We also have a collection of links to other tutorials on specific information literacy topics Contact for more information: Red Wassenich (redwass@austincc.edu) ACC Librarians have developed a series
of guides covering many research and study skills, plus succinct
guides to documentation styles. Faculty may want to link to these
from their own web sites or from Blackboard. Print versions of these
are also available for free in the libraries. The Libraries offer one-on-one reference help to students and faculty
in several ways: You may want to include a link (http://library.austincc.edu/help/ask.htm)
to our Help page on your syllabus and online pages. ACC Library Home Page || ACC Home Page
