Acceptance of Donated Items
- Library staff acquires materials relevant to the needs of faculty, staff, and students. Items that duplicate resources already owned, are outside the scope of the collections, are in poor condition, or are donated under restricted conditions cannot be accepted.
- Donors are asked to deliver materials to the Library; pickup services are not available.
- After items are added to the collection, a letter of acknowledgment is sent to the donor.
- U.S. law places the responsibility for estimating the value of donations on the donor. Library staff cannot provide appraisals or value estimates for donated items. All donated items become the property of Austin Community College Library Services. Items that are not added to the collection will be donated or discarded at the discretion of the library staff.
- ACC Library Services is not able to accept donations of microforms or periodical/journal subscriptions. Gifts of back issues of periodicals or journals will be used to fill gaps in the collection. They will be accepted based on appropriateness, space and funding available. Back issues of microforms will not be accepted.
- ACC Library Services will accept, evaluate, and process gifts of electronic resources consistent with the criteria used for acquisition of electronic resources.
- Library Services subject bibliographers/employees should forward unusual resource donation inquiries to the Dean of Library Services.
Memorials and Monetary Gifts
- Monetary gifts are not accepted in Library Services, but inquiries are forwarded to the ACC Foundation: www.austincc.edu/foundatn 512/223-7743.
- Memorials which are donated in formats accepted by ACC-LS will be considered for the collection according to the criteria used for all donated material, and appropriately gift plated.
