Lending and Fine Policies for ACC Library Users

Want to know what checks out and what doesn't ?
Curious about what charges you might incur if you have overdue, lost, or damaged ACC Library materials?

Circulation Policies || Loan Periods || Lost Items

Items that DO NOT Check Out
  • Reference books
  • Media from "media shelves" (Faculty can check out.)
  • Newspapers
  • Most recent or current issue of a magazine or journal

Textbooks

The Student Support Textbook Collection is a special collection for special student populations. Be aware that certain restrictions are placed on this collection by Student Support. See More Information.

Textbooks check out to ACC CREDIT STUDENTS ONLY for the semester.

Lending & Fines Schedule

The Library marks all items with a due date. It is the borrower's responsibility to know when items are due.

Loan periods vary according to the borrower type. See the charts below for more information:
ACC Credit Students || ACC Faculty & Staff || ACC Faculty & Hourly Employees
CE-Non-Credit & Adult Education || Courtesy & TexShare Borrowers || TexShare Faculty

Maximum Checkout

No borrower may have more than a total of 10 items checked out at one time. Some borrowers are limited to fewer items. (See chart below.)

Maximum Renewals

Reserve items and laptops cannot be renewed. Items in the circulating collection may be renewed twice if no one has placed a hold on the item. If an item must be returned because the renewals have been exhausted, then the patron must wait at least 24 hours before checking it out again. More about how to renew an item ...

Maximum Fines Before Checkout is Blocked

If a borrower has accrued a fine of $10 or more, further checkout will be blocked by the system until the fines are paid.

Overdue Notices

As a matter of courtesy, a first overdue notice is automatically generated and sent out when an item is overdue. A final notice is sent approximately four weeks from the due date. Notices are sent to the ACC e-mail address provided to the student,faculty, or staff member. Or, it is sent to the surface mail address on record with the College. Students are responsible for maintaining a current address with the College. Other borrowers are responsible for maintaining a current email and surface mail address with the Library to ensure that they receive notices.

*Note - Maximum fines per item:
* $10.00 (Reserve photocopies only)
* $50.00 (laptops only)
* $25.00 (All other items - including Reserve items)

Charges for Lost or Damaged Items

  • Items will be presumed lost if not returned within 4 weeks from the due date. Borrowers will be responsible for overdue charges regardless of whether the item is returned, and lost item fees if the item is not returned.
NOTE: If material is overdue more than 4 weeks and/or fines are not paid,
  • Borrowers will be barred from further checkout;
  • A library hold will be placed on students' records. This hold must be cleared before students can register, receive grades, or receive transcripts.
  • Reserve items can be assessed lost charges 1 hour after the due time if the material is in demand by other borrowers.
  • If an item is damaged, a repair fee may be charged for the item.
  • Fines paid after 12:30 PM on Sat may not have the hold removed from the ACC Registration system until Monday AM.
  • If an item is lost or irreparably damaged, charges include
    • the replacement cost, plus
    • any overdue fines accrued, plus
    • a processing fee which is
      • $10.00 for cataloged items and reserve books;
      • $5.00 for other items.

    See LAPTOPS below for lost/damaged charges information about laptops.

    LAPTOPS:
    • Fines on overdue laptops accrue at a rate of $10 per hour. Maximum fine is $50.
    • Billing for non-returned or damaged laptops and accessories includes the full replacement cost ($1500 per laptop) or repair cost, accumulated overdue fines, and a $50 processing charge. If the exact laptop model or accessory is no longer available, replacement cost will be the actual price of a similar item in terms of quality, durability, and performance.
