Putting It All Together

You can combine all the different search techniques at one time. This can get confusing at first, so don’t let it frustrate you. As long as you understand the basics you will do OK. But these advanced techniques can make you a smarty pants.

“Nesting” – You can combine AND and OR searches, usually by putting them in parentheses. You can also use truncation in these.

Example: (lawyer* OR attorney*) AND (ethic* OR moral*) AND business

Unfortunately the picky rules on how to do these sorts of searches have not been standardized, so you have to read the help screens to find what advanced search techniques are possible and how to do them.
