INTRODUCTION

This guide will introduce you to finding books and media by using the library catalog.
  • You may choose any section by clicking on the appropriate topic on the diagram to the left.

  • You may proceed through all topics sequentially by clicking on the navigation arrows at the bottom of each page.

Using the Catalog

The computerized catalog is the key to locating material in the Library and Media Centers. It is available on any computer with access to the Internet.

Here are a few basics before you begin.

The Library Catalog is a web-based catalog and can be reached directly at http://alicat.austincc.edu or through the Library Web Page. (Click on ACC Libraries Catalog when you are on that page.)

Searches can be done by Keyword, Title, Author, Subject, or Call Number. The Quick Keyword search option is the one that displays as the default. Keyword searches are more flexible than the other searches, which are alphabetical, because they search almost all fields of each entry. Advanced Keyword searching allows more ways to limit your results, such as by date, type of publication, publisher, etc.
