In addition to standard symbols, notice that indents are used to show where ideas fit in. This indenting allows you to clarify relationships among ideas and to plan where they should fit in your speech.

.Rule 2: Division of Ideas
In an outline, key ideas are separated. Only one idea is allowed to occupy a line at the point, sub-point or sub-sub-point level.

.Rule 3: Subordination
When you have two or more related ideas, they should be listed as sub-points under a point that summarizes them both. This is the rule of subordination: that similar ideas are grouped in subordinate order.

.Rule 4: Parallel Structure
In outlining, sentences are formed in parallel structure. If your first main point is "NASA has hand a varied and interesting past" then you would expect your second point to be worded similarly. It might be worded like this: "NASA will have a busy and fruitful future."
