Journals

journals
Scholars, academics, or practitioners in a professional field write journal articles. An editorial board of scholars or professionals in that field reviews articles to decide whether they should be published (this practice is called "peer-review" or "refereeing").

Journal articles report findings of original research and may focus in-depth on a very specific area. Take a look at this chart showing the parts of research article.

Since journals are published at periodic intervals (usually quarterly or annually), like newspapers and magazines, they are also known as "periodicals."
