  • Dr. Mac's Amazing Behavior Management Advice Site - sections cover behavior management, strategies for assessing common behaviors and conditions; step-by-step "how-to" pages; assessing and measuring behavior; using the interventions of applied behavior analysis and psycho-educational interventions; implementing schoolwide practices, and interesting and/or humorous readings.
  • National Beginning Teachers Association - service organization provides community forums, mentoring opportunities, and the latest educational tools for new teachers.
  • The New Teacher Center / University of California, Santa Cruz - supports new teachers by serving as a national resource to help develop and retain well-trained educators through its unique induction model which focuses on student learning and classroom instruction with the guidance of highly trained and supported mentors.

  • ED.gov (U.S. Dept. of Education) - information on the U.S. government's policies and resources related to education. Most interesting are the links in the Teaching Resources and One-Stop for Lesson Ideas sections.
  • Education World: A Teacher's Best Friend - The goal is to "make it easy for educators to integrate the Internet into the classroom."
  • Educator's Reference Desk - Information Institute of Syracuse. Includes a resource collection, lesson plans, and a question archive.
  • Edutopia - George Lucas Educational Foundation. Encourages innovation in schools; offers free instructional modules. Of special interest are the areas on teacher preparation and technology integration.
  • Federal Resources for Educational Excellence - U.S. Dept. of Education has compiled information from over 45 government offices here. Access via 10 broad subject categories as well as search for specific information.
  • National Education Technology Plan - links to Toward a New Golden Age in American Education (2004).
  • Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators - Hosted on Discovery.com
  • Smithsonian Education - The central education site for the Smithsonian Institution. The "Educators" section is useful for teachers and teacher education students; see the lesson plans and resource library areas.
  • Teachable Moment - Provides elementary, middle school and high school educators with ideas, classroom activities, and student readings to foster critical thinking on solving current social issues.
  • Teacher - Library of Congress designed site of classroom teacher resources such as lesson plans, classroom activities, primary sources, and professional development.

  • Center for Multilingual, Multicultural Research - Rossier School of Education, University of Southern California. "These links cover preservice, induction, and continuing education for educational personnel including administators, teachers, paraeducators, parents, and those involved in the education of linguistically and culturally diverse students. Topics include recruitment and retention of teachers, state and local certification requirements, national teaching and certification standards, and the role of all teachers in supporting the language, academic, and psycho-social development of linguistically and culturally diverse students."

  • The Implementation of Effective Paraeducator Practices in Educational Settings - North Dakota, Department of Public Instruction. Provides a glossary of terms, sample job descriptions, resources, and three online training modules. The training covers Student Support Concepts, Human Growth and Development & the Impact of Disabilities, and Utilizing Effective Instructional Strategies to Serve Students with Disabilities in Integrated Settings.
  • National Clearinghouse for Paraeducator Resources - Center for Multilingual, Multicultural Research, Rossier School of Education, University of Southern California. Provides links to abstracts from the ERIC Database, Paraeducator-to-Teacher career ladder, resources, and an electronic discussion forum.
  • NEA Paraeducator Handbook - National Education Association. Available for download in Word or PDF.
  • Online Paraeducator Resources - comprehensive links although from a commercial firm, TRISPED Staff Training Solutions.
  • Paraeducators - Council for Exceptional Children site describes the role and responsibilities of paraprofessionals working with special needs and provides related resources to members and non-members.
  • Paraeducator Resource and Learning Center (PRLC) - Center on Disability and Community Inclusion, University of Vermont. Presents six free educational units: Collaborative Teamwork, Inclusive Education, Families and Cultural Sensitivity, Characteristics of Children and Youth with Various Disabilities, Roles and Responsibilities of Paraeducators and Other Team Members, and Implementing Teacher-planned Instruction. Each unit presents a slide show, knowledge challenge of 10 questions, learning activities, and related web sites.
