History Related Library Services

Library Services is committed to providing a quality learning experience for Austin Community College students. We promote information literacy by offering classroom presentations on research techniques, workshops on using electronic resources, and print or on-line tutorials on the selection and documentation of sources. We are also committed to providing a quality teaching experience for faculty, and to achieve that goal, librarians serve as liaisons to each academic and workforce program.

As Library Services' representative to the history program, some of my responsibilities are to:

• Provide research assistance for students and faculty.
• Provide instruction in using information technology, library resources, and how to search the Internet for primary or secondary sources.
• Provide classroom presentations about research for history assignments or for a specific topic such as women's history.
• Assist faculty with course outline, syllabus or reading lists by preparing bibliographies on a specific topic, developing a subject-specific list of Web links to authoritative sites, or creating brief 'how-to' guides and tutorials to assist students with research assignments.
• Develop and maintain History Subject Web links.
• Purchase books, audiovisual or other materials for the history collection at all campuses.
• Assist with Interlibrary Loan requests.
• Review the collections at all campuses and remove dated or inaccurate materials.
• Evaluate the history collection at all campuses for subject strengths and weakness.
• Review publishers' advertisements and other resources on current or reprinted publications; evaluate new resources for relevance to the collection.
• Maintain contact with the history faculty through a faculty e-mail discussion list.
