Special Topics
This site is an excellent resource for ACC students. Contents include ACC MTH course descriptions, ACC faculty directories and websites, information on testing, placement, transfer of courses to other institutions, and more. Created by A. G. Reinhold, the page lists and describes movies that feature mathematics. Movies are given math ratings as well as film ratings, with critiques of instances in the films when math is featured. A fun site! This site, created by the Mathematics Department at Bellevue Community College in Bellevue, Washington, describes six mathematical concepts: the Pythangorean Theorem, Archimedes' Tombstone, the Mobius Strip, the Koch Snowflake Curve, Plateau's Problem, and Counting to Infinity. home page of the Carnegie Mellon University statistics department, is a distribution center for statistics. Searchable. Two topical indexes. Last updated 10/22/96. "a collection of essays describing careers for which a background in mathematics is useful." The individuals profiled, in describing their jobs, suggest an answer to the question "Why study math?" a link from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's math department home page.
Math Problems, Puzzles, and Tutorials
In addition to college level help, Dr. Math also provides K-12 topics and problems. Site offers a searchable database of public domain and shareware software, links to other software sites, teaching materials, and a directory of WWW links arranged by mathematical topic. Interactive examples of how and why we use math in daily life. This site provides algebra problems and instruction, but includes strategies for note taking and test preparation. Other topics include linear equations, inequalities, polynomials, word problems, factoring, algebraic fractions, and percentages. This site is an excellent resource for real help with algebra. A great resource for people who love to solve math problems. Also, the parent site contains a large collection of math related links maintained by Steven Finch, M.S. A West Texas A&M University site with extensive online tutorials in College Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Beginning Algebra.
