"The Association for Business Communication (ABC) is an international organization committed to fostering excellence in business communication scholarship, research, education, and practice." Holds an annual student writing contest: "ABC invites undergraduate students to enter an annual Student Writing Contest by submitting a written response to a case scenario. The writer of the winning entry will receive a plaque and a monetary award at the annual ABC convention."

Society for Technical Communication
"STC is an individual membership organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication. It is the largest organization of its type in the world. Its 25,000 members include technical writers and editors, content developers, documentation specialists, technical illustrators, instructional designers, academics, information architects, usability and human factors professionals, visual designers, Web designers and developers, and translators - anyone whose work makes technical information available to those who need it." There is an Austin Chapter of STC which holds an annual student writing competition.
Usability Professionals' Association
UPA was formed in 1991 to provide a "network and opportunities through which usability professionals can communicate and share information about skills and skill development, methodology used and/or proposed in the profession, tools, technology, and organizational issues."
