ACC LS Reserves Mission Statement

ACC Library Services supports students and faculty by providing controlled physical access to materials required for class as requested by instructors. These materials are intended to be high use to support course assignments, for both credit and CE students.

ACC LS Reserves Guidelines for Faculty

  1. The Reserve Materials Collection is intended for items of anticipated high use. Library Services maintain robust statistics and will monitor usage of reserve materials. If materials placed on reserve have low use/ zero checkouts within a semester, these materials will be removed from reserves and returned to the library shelves or to the faculty.
  2. In cases where faculty request more than 10 items to be placed on reserve, they will be directed to meet with the Faculty Librarian serving as the subject selector to determine the best methods for delivering course materials to students.
  3. When possible, ACC Faculty are encouraged to share materials electronically with their students to overcome geographic and time constraints for students. For example, copies of old tests, article links, OER course materials can be shared through Blackboard by the instructor.
  4. Physical items should be suitable for library reserves such as 3D models, print books, CDs, DVDs, etc.
  5. Items in the Student Advocacy Center Textbook Collection are not eligible to be placed on reserve.
  6. If an academic department wishes to place an item on reserve, a copy must be available at all LS library locations to ensure equity of access for all students.
  7. Please allow one week for reserve requests to be processed. During peak activity it may take longer than one week before an item is available for students to check out. Instructors will be notified via email if the request will take longer than 7 days.
  8. LS cannot assume responsibility for lost or damaged items.
  9. Loan periods will be 2 hour, 1 day, 3 day and one week.
  10. Items can be placed on reserve for one Academic Year at a time. LS will contact you annually each summer semester to evaluate eligibility for the next AY and ask that you submit a new request form or provide a best return address for your materials.
  11. Items cannot be placed on reserve for the next academic year until July 1st of the current academic year.
  12. Faculty may be asked to provide proof of copyright permission of duplicated materials.

Reserves Alternatives

We have worked diligently to increase the number of library resources available in electronic format since March of 2020. You might find that the library content you previously had on physical reserve is now available for electronic access by your students through the following:

You can also request that a digital edition of an item be added to the collection by working with your Faculty Subject Librarian. Set up a meeting with your subject librarian to identify electronic library resources for your course and visit this libguide to learn more about Open Educational Resources (OERs) as an option for textbooks.

ACC Faculty should continue to share course materials electronically with students through Blackboard, links to OER materials, and links to library resources. For assistance using Blackboard click here.
