What is a Materials Challenge?

 

If you question the appropriateness of collection material within ACC Library Services, you may ask that the material be reviewed for consideration of removal or purchase.

You should make a thorough study of the Materials Challenge Packet before deciding whether or not to pursue a challenge to materials. After a careful review of this packet, if you still think that the item in question should be removed or purchased, complete the 2 following steps:

  1. Complete the Request for Reconsideration of ACC LS Materials form, and
  2. Return the completed form to the Head Librarian at that campus.

Timeline for Challenges to ACC LS Materials

ActionTimeline
A "Request for Reconsideration of ACC LS Materials" form must completed by the patron. When a request for material consideration is made.
Form must be sent to Dean of Library ServicesImmediately upon receipt by the HL
Dean of LS creates the Materials Review CommitteeWithin 30 working days from the time the Dean receives the completed form from the HL.
Committee reviews the challenge request and sends decision to LS Dean Within 60 working days from the time the Dean receives the completed form.
LS Dean responds to patronWithin 90 working days from the time the Dean receives the completed form.
