Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

The Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States defines Interlibrary Loan (ILL) as “the process by which a library requests material from, or supplies material to, another library.” Interlibrary Loan is provided to obtain material for users that is not available in the user’s local library or at ACC.

At ACC, Interlibrary Loan services are provided to support ACC course-related assignments and academic research for current ACC students, faculty, and staff.

What can I request?

All requests must support ACC course-related assignments and academic research, or information needs.

How do I request an ILL?

ACC reference librarians may refer current ACC users to complete the ACC Interlibrary Loan online form at library reference desks or through phone, email, Zoom, or chat reference services.

ACC Library Services staff will follow up with users as needed.

How long does it take?

An ILL request for a print book typically takes 5+ business days to arrive. Requests for articles are usually delivered electronically within 48 hours, if available. Delivery times may vary depending on lender response times and shipping methods.

Restrictions

Locally Owned Materials

ACC will not request materials that ACC libraries own. Users should check the Library Enterprise Catalog linked from library.austincc.edu or our A-Z list of electronic resources for available materials prior to requesting ILL services. For questions or if you need help, please contact a librarian.

Requesters of locally-owned materials are referred to reference librarians for assistance in identifying local materials and assisting requesters to obtain TexShare Cards when appropriate.

Materials Unavailable for Interlibrary Loan

Materials generally not available for interlibrary loan include:

Request Scope and Limits

ACC Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests are intended to support ACC course-related assignments and academic research for current ACC students, faculty, and staff.

Requests outside this scope will be reviewed by ACC ILL librarians, and patrons will be contacted to discuss alternative access options.

ACC ILL librarians reserve the right to limit excessive or repetitive loan requests.

Copyright

Materials obtained through Interlibrary Loan are provided under U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17) for individual use only and may be used for private study, scholarship, or research.

ILL copies may not be redistributed, shared with a group, or posted in a learning management system (such as Blackboard).

If an article is needed for course use by multiple students, contact your librarian about copyright permission options (such as publisher permission or Copyright Clearance Center).

The library reserves the right to decline requests that would violate copyright law.
