What are web site certificates?
If an organization wants to have a secure web site that uses encryption, it needs to obtain a site, or host, certificate. There are two elements that indicate that a site uses encryption (see Protecting Your Privacy for more information):
The Library has received questions regarding certificate errors or security exception errors when clicking library database links. We are aware of this issue and it is not unique to ACC. Database vendors are moving to the more secure “https” and adding security certificates. So, you may encounter more of these types of messages.
There are many possible scenarios that lead to this error message appearing, but your computer is unlikely to be in danger from accessing a library database through the Library Website.
